Story Behind The Painting

For this challenge I needed to recreate a famous painting. I chose the painting Brabacon Brussels Griffon by Otto Eerelman (1839-1926)

Otto Eerelman was a Dutch painter who was best known for his paintings of dogs and horses.

The Story Behind The Photoshoot

Trying to take a photo of one dog when you have three ends up in total chaos! Everyone wanted to be in the photo. Olive was barking in protest for not being in it! Jesse plopped right down in the middle and did not budge.

I ended up putting Olive outside and Jesse in the office. Once the scene was cleared and it was just Cody and me I had a hard time getting him to stay. He kept wanting to lick the iPad. He also didn't want to sit the same direction as the dog in the painting. Cody prefers to sit facing towards the left. The dog in the painting faces towards the right. After several attempts to shift his butt in the right sitting position and him shifting back each time, I gave up!

The Story Behind The Editing

The recreation photo/painting took three apps and lots of back and forth from my iPad to my laptop to complete the desired look.

iPad - Photos taken on my iPad with this as the original.

Photoshop Mix App - With this app I was able to crop the photo, adjust the overall exposure by selecting just my dog and blanket, added a brown background and blended the two photos. To get a painting texture I needed to utilize another app called Glaze.

Glaze App - With the Glaze app I was able to apply different painting textures to the photo. The photo was also too dark so I sent it to my laptop, lightened the photo, emailed it back to myself to open on my iPad. There I used another app, called PicsArt, to change the background colors to include the browns, greens and yellows.

PicsArt - Allowed me to pick a variety of colors and brush strokes to help recreate the background and the blanket colors. I ended up going back a second time using the airbrush feature to help soften it and adding some white to his eyes.

Glaze App - I went back to Glaze to apply the final painting textures to the whole photo. This is what I compared to the famous painting. My background has more of a camouflage feel, but it worked all in all.
